Flora Chorca Dhuibhne

Flora Chorca Dhuibhne

Máirín Uí Chonchubhair. Photos by Aodán Ó Conchúir. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne, Ballyferriter, 1998 (2nd edition). 270 pp. Hard cover, 370 full-colour photos, 75 line drawings. Fully bilingual (all text in both English and Irish).

This important publication is the product of more than four years' work by a botanist and a photographer, both natives of Corca Dhuibhne. It was carried out as part of a programme of heritage education and awareness operated since 1980 by Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne (a subsidiary of Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne, the development co-operative founded in 1967).

The book will be indispensable to all interested in Corca Dhuibhne and in biology or natural history, and as an aid both to teachers and students of botany and biology.

Most of the common plants of Corca Dhuibhne, and by extension of Ireland, are beautifully illustrated. In addition, they are placed within their local context with respect to traditional usage and folklore. The book also treats many of the rarest species and provides a balanced flavour of the accessible flora of the area.
